Lesson 11 of 25
The Art of the Open Question
A question that can be answered yes or no will be answered yes or no. If instead you name the dimensions you want the answer to cover - why, how, in what order, measured against what - the model has to actually do the thinking you were hoping for. The work of opening a question is not adding words; it is deciding in advance what a useful answer would contain.
The original prompts were written for this platform, so the work here is to tighten them and then use what is actually unique: ground the open question in current Search results where currency matters, attach real material rather than describing it, and send the answer to the Doc or Sheet where you will work on it. For the strategy question in particular, an open question plus live local search is a different and better answer than an open question alone.
- Keep grounded facts and your own judgement in separate sections.
- Ground the question where currency matters; not for creative work.
- Attach the real menu, photos or draft rather than describing it.
- Send the plan to a Doc or Sheet you will actually use.
- Save a recurring question shape as a Gem.

Is social media marketing a good choice for my new cafe in Kondapur?
Perplexity version
### THE DECISION ### I am opening an upscale cafe called 'Kondapur Mornings' in Kondapur, Hyderabad, next month. Small marketing budget, most of it committed in the first 90 days, no existing audience. I need to decide where that money goes. Do not answer whether social media is a good choice - that is a yes, and useless to me. ### GROUND THIS FIRST ### Use Google Search before you advise, and keep what you find in a section headed "What I found", with sources and dates: * Which cafes and coffee chains are currently operating in and around Kondapur, Gachibowli and HITEC City, and how they position themselves * What the strongest-performing of them post, and roughly how often * Any Telangana or GHMC rules on signage, outdoor seating or promotional activity that affect a launch plan * What the food delivery platforms currently charge a new restaurant partner, if published If you cannot find something, say so rather than filling the gap. ### THEN, SEPARATELY - YOUR JUDGEMENT ### Under a heading "My recommendation", and explicitly not grounded in search results: 1. Which customer segment to go after first, and why that one over the others 2. Platform choice with reasons - Instagram and Facebook, but judged alongside Google Business Profile and WhatsApp, which for a neighbourhood cafe often matter more and which most advice skips 3. A week-by-week content plan for month one, with specific posts, not categories 4. Three metrics worth watching, two vanity metrics to ignore, and the number at which I stop doing something 5. What organic social will not achieve, and what else this budget could buy ### INPUTS ### I will attach my draft menu, photos of the space, and the signed rent agreement so you can see the location and size. Use them - a 24-seat room and a 60-seat room need different plans. Work from the photos, do not assume what the space looks like. ### OUTPUT ### Put the 90-day plan into a Google Sheet called "Kondapur Mornings - launch plan" with one row per week and columns for channel, post, cost and the metric it moves. Keep the "What I found" section in the chat. Save this structure as a Gem called "Launch decisions" - I have a second outlet planned and will want to run this again.

Was the Vijayanagara Empire important?
Perplexity version
### WHAT I WANT ### A proper tutorial on the Vijayanagara Empire's place in South Indian history. Not a verdict on whether it was important. ### COVER, IN ORDER ### 1. **Significance in context.** What changed politically, economically, in trade and in religious patronage because the empire existed. What it consolidated; what it interrupted. 2. **Architecture: Vijayanagara against Hoysala.** Compare directly on materials, plan, scale, ornament and function. Named examples both sides - Hampi against Belur and Halebidu. Explain what the differences say about the two states, which is the actual reason to compare buildings. 3. **Talikota, 1565.** Why this is a pivotal turning point and not just one defeat. Separate what the battle destroyed from what was already decaying. 4. **Where historians disagree.** At least two live disputes, with what each side argues. ### USE SEARCH, BUT CAREFULLY ### Ground the factual claims and cite them. Two things to be strict about: * Distinguish what is scholarly consensus from what is simply repeated often online. Hampi attracts a lot of confidently wrong writing, particularly on dates and on troop numbers at Talikota. Where the popular account and the scholarly one differ, give me both and say which is which. * For the archaeological and inscriptional claims, prefer ASI, museum and university sources over general sites, and name the source inline. Mark any date or figure you are not confident about rather than presenting everything at equal certainty. ### USE THE IMAGES ### Pull up images of Hampi's Vittala temple complex and of the Hoysaleswara temple at Halebidu and refer to specific visible features when you compare them - the stone, the carving depth, the plan. A comparison I can see is worth three paragraphs of adjectives. ### OUTPUT ### A Google Doc called "Vijayanagara - notes", with the historiography section at the end and a short list of authors worth reading. Authors and fields rather than exact titles, unless you are confident the title is right.

Is a historical fiction novel a good idea?
Perplexity version
### THE TASK ### I am writing a historical fiction novel set at the peak of the Kakatiya dynasty in Telangana - the Rudrama Devi and Prataparudra period. Do not assess whether this is a good idea. Help me find the specific book. Brainstorm five distinct concepts. Distinct in protagonist, scale and register - not five court intrigues. At least one protagonist with no access to power at all: a tank-builder, a weaver, a temple musician. For each: protagonist (name, station, the thing they want and cannot have), central conflict, the 'what if' hinge, and **the problem with it** - thin plot, unlikeable lead, too much exposition needed. Be blunt about the problem; that is the part I will use. ### DO NOT GROUND THE CONCEPTS ### The five concepts are mine and should be invented, not assembled from search results. Do not search while generating them - if you do, I will get five summaries of novels that already exist. ### THEN, SEPARATELY, DO GROUND THESE ### Under a heading "Researched, with sources": * What is documented about Kakatiya-period daily life, irrigation tanks, trade and temple patronage, and which periods are thinly documented. Cite ASI, university and museum sources. * What historical fiction already exists set in this dynasty or region, in English and in Telugu. Cite it. I need to know what I would be sitting next to. * What Indian English-language publishers have recently acquired in historical fiction, if anything is publicly reported, with dates. Keep this strictly out of the concept section, and flag anything you could only find in one place. ### OUTPUT ### The five concepts into a Google Doc called "Kakatiya novel - concepts", one page each, with the research notes in a separate section at the end. I will cut it to two and come back. Do not invent inscriptions, chronicles or scholarly works. If you cannot source something, say what kind of source I should look for.
